EthnoAfro

Ethnography Art

Showcasing and valuing technology embodied in ethnographic art with examples coming from Africa.

About us

We believe that by better understanding and appreciating this art we can value the level of technology present in Africa, many thousands of years ago which contributed to where we are as humans today. Given that Africa is the source of all modern humankind, it is reasonable that we should all be able to participate in and enjoy the technologies that helped make us human. These technologies emerged from our ancestors and they are represented in current day ethnographic objects from the people who still live in nomadic and Forest driven ways.

Ethnoafro is a partnership between.

Christian Kakoba a Congolese computer scientist and William Bertrand a retired Professor from Tulane University.

Mission:

To use   information technology to increase the enjoyment and visibility of primarily African Ethnographic inspired early utilitarian objects and  technology to celebrate the fact that humankind emerged from Africa . To do this while offering   a sharing of resources generated by the sale or exhibit of such art or its derivatives with the producers when possible or with activities that enhance the status of the population of the Continent from which the art originated.

To use all forms of visual and digital technology to make available to as many as possible the

Heritage of us all to be shared by all.

The average gallery charges from 40 to 70% of the retail price of objects. Ethnoafro is the owner of all of the objects either digital, in print, or original and will make a 40% donation of the retail price of it´s products to the one of three projects managed by the Heritage Foundation for Cultural Sustainability or to the artist who authored the piece if that is known.

The current projects available to support this donation are as follows.

  1. Projects in the DRC dedicated to saving the Ituri Forest and or the Bonobo Chimpanzie population.

  1. Projects to support graduate training for employees of the National Museum of the Democratic Republic of the Congo for curating and further development of the national museum.

  1. Activities and costs to support the repatriation of ethnographic art objects to the national museums in current countries of origin.

The remainder of the funds generated will be dedicated to the management and development of technologies for further spreading and making public the beauty that emerged with our ancestors from Africa.
